The Immeasurably More God

The Immeasurably More God.

We have been talking about How to live like a Christian for the past few weeks. On communion Sunday I want to change the focus. Today I want to begin with the end. Read in the bulletin Eph 3:20-21: “Now to him who is able to do IMMEASURABLY MORE than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,to him be glory in the church & in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever & ever! Amen.

Notice two words: IMMEASURABLY MORE. God is the immeasurably more” God. That means God’s capacity to meet our spiritual needs far exceeds anything we can imagine. Most of my life is very measurable: I’m 61 years old, I weigh 180 lbs. I’m 5’8’, my blood type is A, my cholesterol count is 108, I’m married with 3 kids & four grandkids. My life with me is measurable. But my life with God is “immeasurably more”.

Much of my life is rather normal, everyday kind of life. Much of the time I just find myself cruising through life. I don’t normally think about the “immeasurably more” kind of life with God. And at times, if I’m totally honest, I don’t know if I want a “immeasurably more” kind of life. Some days I think my daily life is just fine. But then I read these words & I realize God wants to do more & He may want me to do more.

So why does it matter if we are willing to experience this “immeasurably more” kind of God? It matters because our kids, our neighbors, our mates, our friends, our community is hungry to see God at work in His church.

Many people are looking for something. They think they may find it in a political process, or a financial rescue plan, or in a team winning the state championship, or in popularity or in a relationship. The Bible says that there is only One who can satisfy the longing in our hearts, Jesus.

God decided to let his people know this rich & glorious secret which he has for all people. This secret is Christ himself, who is in you. He is our only hope…” .  Col 1:27 NCV   Jesus in YOU our only HOPE!

- So how do you see Jesus? - Is Jesus the baby in the manger, the great teacher, or the man on the cross? Or do you see Jesus as “IMMEASURABLE MORE”I want you to enlarge you view of Jesus. In Col 1 we read this about Jesus:

Col 1:15-17says:   “Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by him all things were created: things in heaven & on earth, visible & invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him & for him.  He is before all things, & in him all things hold together.”

That’s Jesus the Bible is talking about. He’s not just a baby in a manger, a great teacher or a man on a cross; He is the co-creator & co-manager of the universe!

As life happens we have questions. Does He know what you are going through? Does He see the millions starving in our world, the many caught up in human sex trafficking, those suffering from AIDS, malaria, & other diseases? Even more personal, is He aware of your challenge or difficulties? Your relationship issues, your physical issues, your emotional issues, or financial issues? God wants to remind us that it is, “Christ in you. He is our only hope.”

“For by Jesus all things were created: things in heaven & on earth, visible & invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him & for him.  He is before all things, & in him all things hold together.”

How big is this universe Jesus co-created? Our galaxy is the Milky Way & is made up of one hundred billion stars. Our galaxy is one of millions, possibly billions of others! Who can picture that? No one but lets try.

Suppose you want to take a drive to the sun. A car dealer gives you a deal on a vehicle that averages 150 mph. You drive nonstop, 24 hours a day, 365 days a years. Any guess on how many years how many years to the sun? Answer: 70years! Suppose you wanted to continue on to the next closest star system, Alpha Centauri. It would take 15million years to get there.

Maybe you are like me & you don’t like to drive. So you get on a jet that goes 600 mph. In 16.5 days you’ll reach the moon, in 17 years you’ll pass the sun, & in 690 years you could have breakfast on Pluto. After 17,000 years you haven’t even left our solar system, much less our galaxy.”

A light year is a way of measuring distance. Light travels at 186,000 miles per second. Therefore, a light second is 186,000 miles. Light year is the distance that light can travel in a year, 5,865,696,000,000 miles/year (Quadrillian)

How long would it take the space shuttle to go one light-year? The shuttle orbits the Earth at about 18,000 mph. Light travels at 186,000 miles per second, which is about 37,200 times faster than the shuttle. So the shuttle would need about 37,200 years to go one light-year.

-Hubble Space telescope is located 375 miles above the surface of the earth. The 10 greatest Pictures give us a glimpse of the “immeasurable more creation that Jesus made & holds together.

“…For by him all things were created:

Now lets end where we began & read together again Eph. 3:20-21:

“Now to him who is able to do IMMEASURABLY MORE than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,to him be glory in the church & in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever & ever! Amen.

If you have put your trust in Jesus as Savior & Lord & received Him by personal invitation we invite you take communion this morning, & “remember what Jesus did for you.”

2. How does Jesus see you?

Your are INFINATELY valuable. God is big but does he care about us?

Ps 139:14 says, I praise you because I am fearfully & wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”  You are not an accident. You are not just a product of your parents coming together.    God made you on purpose for a purpose. How has God made wonderfully us?

Every few seconds your body replaces 50,000 of the cells in your body with brand new cells. One square inch of skin inch your body holds: 1300 nerve endings, 4 yards of never fibers, 100 sweat glands, 3 million cells, & 3 yards of blood vessels. You are amazing.

God created us amazing. The human brain drains more electrical impulses in a single day than all the telephones in the world.

“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself & became obedient to death— even death on a cross!”   Phil 2:8

Christ himself was like God in everything. But he did not think that being equal with God was something to be used for his own benefit.  But he gave up his place with God and made himself nothing. He was born as a man & became like a servant.  And when he was living as a man, he humbled himself & was fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross.  So God raised him to the highest place. God made his name greater than every other name so that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus—everyone in heaven, on earth, & under the earth.  And everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord & bring glory to God the Father.

Jesus UNDERSTANDS, because He was ONE of us. He became one of us so that he could forgive all our sin & adopt us into his family.

Why does it matter?
